Synopsis: Shakespeare with a twist in celebration of his life and work. As the wrongly accused and suffering wife of Shakespeare's tragic Moor, Othello, Desdemona has long been seen as the victim of circumstance.
Pulitzer Prize-winning Paula Vogel demonstrates in her comic deconstruction of Shakespeare's play that Desdemona was far from the quivering naif we have all come to know.
Ms Vogel uses tongue-in-cheek humour to raise serious questions as to the role of women through the ages. Desdemona's foils and rapt listeners are the other integral and re-imagined women of this Shakespeare tragedy: Emelia, Desdemona's servant and wife of Iago, and Bianca, now a majestic Cypriot prostitute.
