Synopsis:This well-loved story, a romantic comedy, has been adapted with considerable skill into a fast-moving carefully constructed play by Brian Burton who was a life member of our company until his demise in 2014.

The Bennets, a nineteenth century couple, are much concerned with finding husbands for their daughters Lizzie, Jane and Lydia. Mrs Bennett, for whom the marriage of her daughters has become an obsession, is ecstatic when a rich young man, Charles Bingley, takes an estate near their Hertfordshire home and pays court to Jane, the prettiest and sweetest-tempered of her girls. But Bingley's friend, the aristocratic Mr Darcy, insults a dashing young officer, Mr Wickham, who shows an interest in Lizzie. Bingley fails to follow up his interest and Jane lapses into heartsickness. When Lizzie discovers that Mr Darcy and his sister have engineered Mr Bingley's removal from the scene, her hatred of him knows no bounds.
