The Swan Theatre Amateur Company is an amateur theatre group based at the Swan theatre in Worcester, UK. We perform roughly five shows per year as well as our popular Saturday morning children's theatre plays.
The word "amateur" means "lover of" and we put on our shows because we love to do so. Our aim is to provide the opportunity for dedicated amateurs to contribute to the theatre’s success, through involvement in dramatic productions of a high artistic standard. Members are also encouraged to support the theatre by volunteering as stewards etc.
S.T.A.C. began its life as S.AM.A. (The Society for the Advancement of Music and the Arts) Theatre Group and produced its first play in 1945. It became the Swan Theatre Company in 1965 with the building of the Swan Theatre, which was the result of a community fund raising effort lead by Sara Knight, the Chair of S.A.M.A.
The name was changed after Huntingdon Arts took over the theatre in 2003. In 2006 Huntingdon Arts became Worcester Live. Since our inception we have produced over 300 plays.
